A Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles (MVA) inspection is a mandatory, comprehensive safety and emissions check required every two years for most vehicles in Maryland. The inspection ensures your vehicle meets state safety standards and emission requirements, protecting you, your passengers, and the environment.
Why it matters: You cannot register your vehicle in Maryland without a valid inspection. If you drive an unregistered vehicle, you face fines up to $500 and potential vehicle impoundment.
Who needs it: Every registered vehicle in Maryland, except motorcycles (annual) and certain antique vehicles.
Brake pads, rotors, drums, fluid condition, and brake lines are inspected for safety and function. Failing brakes are an automatic fail.

Tire tread depth must be 2/32" minimum. We also check for cracks, bulges, and proper wheel attachment and alignment.
All headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and backup lights are tested. Burned-out bulbs result in an inspection failure.
Glass must be free from cracks in driver's line of sight. Wiper blades must be functional and in good condition.
We run a computer-based emissions test (OBD-II scan). Check engine lights or high emissions are automatic failures.
All seatbelts must be present and functional. Safety systems and airbag indicators are verified.
Your horn must work properly. All mirrors (rear and side) must be present and securely attached.
Mufflers, pipes, and catalytic converters are checked for leaks, damage, and proper attachment.
